2024 Tule Kaima Riga Walk draft proposal

Time: April 6 , 2024 or April 13, 2024

Location: Riga, central part

Distance: 7-7,5km (3.5km+3.5km+0.5km)

Route Plan

Schedule:

11:15 (latest 11:35) - the bus drops off the passengers at Muitas iela,

11:20 (latest 11:40) start of the walk to the Old town Dome Square (ca 700m), normal walking time 5-6 min (reach the Dome Church entrance by 11:45)

12:00 - 12:25 Concerto Picolo (organ music) at the Dome Church (net time 20 min) - the famous Riga Dome Church Organ (celebrating 140 years this year)

12:25 - 13:00 Walk part 1 (Organ Concert to Central market - "Heart to Stomack"): walk through the Old Town to the Central market ( Dome Square - Smilšu iela - The Freedom Monument, Canal park by the opera, the Opera Bridge (Student bridge), Opera House, Vaļņu iela - Central market

13:00 - 13:40 walk together (or free time) at the Central market

13:40 Depart from the Central Market Fish pavilion for the 2nd part of the walk

13:40 - 15: 00 Walk Part 2 (Central market - Āgenskalns Market) :Central market Fish Pavilion - Rail Baltica crossing, Railway Bridge (pic below) , the river bank with the view on the islands and the National Library (pic below), 1905 monument, walk over the Stone Bridge, after ca 30 min stop over to rest on the Library Poet bench (the bench is large enough for the whole group to sit); pass by the railway museum ( outdoor exhibition visible), Uzvaras parks (where the Soviet Memorial column was pulled down) - reach Agenskalna Tirgus (market) - normal speed walking without stops takes 40min, we plan 80min for the group

15:00 - 16:00 lunch and free time at Agenskalna tirgus (Āgenskalns market) - ground floor is food stands, upper floor is eating places -cafeterias, bars.

Eating options: order the famous Fish Seljanka at "Klapkalnciema zivis" (6eur for 500ml portion) for everyone or let them get food to their choice (numerous food stands with typical meals 6-9 eur, cheapest harcho soup 3 eur, more expensive meals up to 12-15 eur, common seating area (with a nive view) for everyone.

16:00 - 16:15 walk to the bus (by Uzvaras parks) - no bus parking space in Āgenskalns market area, walk to bus ca 500m
